As part of Nike's commitment to reducing its environmental impact, the Reuse-A-Shoe program has provided Nike Grind recycled material to nearly 300 sport and playground surfacing projects donated by Nike programs in communities around the world – in addition to the thousands of commercial projects completed by our surfacing partners. You can see all the surfaces created using Nike Grind and donated through Nike’s community giving programs with the map on the right.
By partnering with Nike's social responsibility programs, we've added an innovative, sustainable focus to important community-building projects from our own backyard of Portland, Oregon, to inner cities, small towns and rural areas in nearly a dozen countries.
Because surfaces like tracks and courts require significant labor and materials in addition to Nike Grind, the Reuse-A-Shoe program is not able to donate surfaces to organizations in exchange for hosting a shoe drive. Instead, our efforts are focused on increasing the capacity and sustainability of our program and reducing Nike’s environmental footprint.
Those seeking assistance in building a surface can apply to the Bowerman Track Renovation Program, a global program that provides matching cash grants to community-based, youth-oriented organizations that seek to refurbish or construct running tracks. We encourage recipients of a Bowerman grant to use Nike Grind in their surface.
